If your thoughts become things, which ones are you thinking?

The big smile on my face clearly expressed how much I enjoyed Mike Dooley’s “Playing the Matrix” workshop in Vancouver last weekend. His 3 finger salute refers to the 3 key words that are the essence of his teaching, “Thoughts become Things”. I’m drawn to teachers who bring simplicity to their teachings, since quite frankly, I don’t have the desire to learn complex material to arrive at the often simple solutions. I’ll leave that to the scientists and such.

I like Mike’s books since they have a levity to them along with inspiring stories and steps that can be naturally implemented to achieving your dreams. He states that what most of us really desire is happiness. Of course we have different versions of what will create that happiness (wealth, relationships, right livelihood, health), but the end state we desire is quite similar. So, he goes on to say, by focusing on happiness, we will naturally achieve our end goals too. He shared a process on how to do that while recognizing the details of what we want.

What I gained most from his messages was the importance of blending the process and the result. We can continue tweaking our present day experiences to make them a little happier or our lives more comfortable, yet if we let go of the destination(s), we’re not likely to experience the level of happiness that’s in our hearts.

For example, last year I decided to study fashion in Paris. This was a big event for me, one that required money, time, and dedication. I could’ve decided that it would be easier to stay at home, take some courses in fashion here, and add a bit of Paris to my daily life (eat croissants, dress stylishly, enjoy art).  It’s true that this could’ve created some enjoyment. If my real heart’s desire was to be in Paris though, these things could just make me feel like I’ll never get what I really want and I’m substituting them for the real thing.  It would totally depend on my truth.

The result of choosing to study in Paris was that I worked backstage during Paris Fall Fashion Week and got to sit in some front rows too, a dream that was on my list of things I must do. I saw people in the industry that I admired from years of seeing them on television and in magazines. Now for someone like me, this was huge. It took me to the heart of what I desired while I also got to learn, eat croissants, go to art galleries, etc. Anything less wouldn’t been my actual dream at this point.

So do you have a clear destination?  Are you really going for that? Are are you being sidetracked by substitutes?  Our desires change, yet I feel we must go for the real thing every time. What that is, only your heart really knows. Yes, it takes courage, but is there time for anything less in this world that’s speeding up so much that it’s begging us to lighten our loads and learn to fly?

As a life coach, I support people in uncovering and going for their real heart’s desires. The more everyone lives their life this way, the more joy and love we add to the world through the living of truth. This, to me, is the human journey.  Request a complimentary Breakthrough session to shed light on where you are and where you’d like to be and learn about a path than can take you there. info@joiworks.com
