Joi Works Turns Sweet 16

June marks the 16th anniversary of Joi Works!  I believe in celebrating achievements – especially since they come from an idea, a spark, a desire within us before they show up in physical form.

Here are a handful of my highlights from birthing Joi Works:* Evolving Joi Works as I evolved: consulting, teaching, coaching
* Having Joi Works mentioned in the award-winning enRoute in-flight magazine
* Coaching amazing clients to bring their life and career/business dreams to fruition
* Working with coaches, artists, writers, urban planners, consultants, therapists…
* Being interviewed about Nia several times for TV
* Studying fashion in Paris, working Paris Fall Fashion *Week, being a stylist
* Learning the value of investing in my dreams
* Travelling for trainings to favourite international cities
* Creating a course combining Nia movement and writing; teaching it in Manhattan
* Working with excellent companies who desire a better culture and support for their teams
* Speaking to groups of up to 150, daring others to live their best life
* Constantly learning, growing, shifting, finding ways to express my gifts
* Fun side projects: being in a play, creating a pop-up clothing shop, curating a pop-up art gallery, writing an e-book on self-love, photographed for a music video, selling my first painting…

The real life challenges:

– keeping the faith, releasing doubts and fears

– managing financial ups and downs as things changed (#1 fear that stops most people from being in their truth)
– saying “yes” to my dream even when jobs were being offered without my asking (on 2nd thought, wasn’t that difficult)
– being willing to change course dramatically because I felt called to
– ignoring other people’s limiting beliefs about stability and responsibility (including family, friends, colleagues)

As I recently heard asked:

Would you rather believe in a world where dreams come true
or where they don’t come true?

It IS always a choice. ALL dreams are planted in us for a reason. So why not dream out of the box and do all that you want?

“As we get more established in life and in our careers, it can seem harder and harder to consider a career change… no matter how badly you still want to pursue your lifelong ambition of launching your own tech startup or writing a hit TV comedy. Deloitte has been my life for 38 years. For the past several years as my retirement approached, I’ve been planning my move from business to academia. This year, when I retire from Deloitte, I’ll join the full-time teaching faculty at Columbia Business School in New York. You see, even after all this time, I still want to be a teacher. That dream never went away.”
