Joy in January

First, a quick note, I’ll be teaching a new Nia class at Pilates Unlimited, a well-recognized and honoured studio, on Wednesday evenings starting in February! Yes! Come check it out…details on Nia page.

Ok, so…

Has it been a slow start to the new year or is it me? It still feels SO quiet (relatively speaking). As I wrote several weeks ago, December is frequently one of my least favourite times of the year and January one of my favourite. However, as I also wrote, I decided to take extra care of myself in December so that my experience would be different. And it was!  Somehow it ended up being one of the most fun yet relaxed Decembers I’ve had in a long, long time. In fact, the celebrations went right into the first week of January.  Nice, or so I thought.

With such an enjoyable end of 2010, my experience of January was changed. Typically, I LOVE the beginning of a new year. Yet somehow the full December resulted in a quiet new beginning, without the huge burst of energy I often feel. So, I’m missing that feeling. Not that there haven’t been any high moments, just missing what was always such a highlight. Is it possible to have a fun December AND an exuberant beginning in January??  Hey, that sounds like a great resolution for next time. 🙂

Tips on adding more Joy in January:

  1. Exercise!!! I can’t emphasize that enough, especially after the eating and drinking that happens in December (which could also result in an energy drop).
  2. Find a NEW social event to go to.
  3. Connect with loved ones by phone/email/letter/postcard (many people feel a little lonely after the holidays even when they’re happy to return to routine).
  4. Plan one Adventure (the smaller it is the sooner it needs to be, and if it’s a large one, you can take more time).

Ok, now go to it!  I’m doing/have done the first three…got to come up with #4.
