Recycling Cothing, part 1

Were you to look in your closet, how many things would you find that have only been worn a couple of times, are in mint condition, yet for some reason don’t work anymore?

Women find this a fairly common occurrence, since events require us to wear different kinds of outfits. Meanwhile men can get way with a far smaller range that easily goes from one event to another. This is both a joy and a pain for women. We get to dress up in so many ways!…And what do we do with that dress or suit that we only needed for such-and-such an occasion? These questions crossed my mind as I did my own winter wardrobe cleanse.

In the process of clearing, I found a number of great dresses for work that were barely worn. Working primarily from home, I simply don’t need the range of things I used to (one of my few reasons for appreciating the 9-to-5 scene). As I sorted my clothing out, I felt I wanted to give it to someone who could love and appreciate it as I did. My girlfriends don’t have the same style/size and I don’t have sisters, so there was no one close by to take them. Meanwhile, I had given two bags to charity at the end of the summer. This time, however, I didn’t want to just give them away. But they did not fit or suit my needs so there was little reason to hold on any longer. Being of such great quality and design, I wanted to know the people who would want them.

While many people do clothing swaps, that is not what came to mind for these items (going through piles of clothing is not my idea of fun, nor the way I personally wanted to honour nice clothing). I thought there must be others who felt like me, non?, those who had nice stuff that they were now ready to let go of and wanted to share it with someone who would love it?   So a pre-loved clothing sale event was born. More in my next post…meanwhile, here are some pretty items.
