Moving on from Summer

With the temperature still in the 20s, we’ve got time yet to enjoy sunshine, light, and the looseness of the summer vibe. How has yours been so far?  Did you go with the flow or have a list of goals to accomplish (including fun :)?  With the release from a regular schedule, I find my memories a bit hazy as I seemed to float from one day to the next with less deadlines and commitments than usual. Amidst the summer haziness, I found some things rose to the surface, those moments  when things got highlighted for the impact they left.

I was fortunate to have time to just “be” most of this summer. This was not all planned, a regular contract fell through at the last minute after assurances that it would be happening. So the luxury of time and space was my gift instead…a valuable one. Sometimes the less one does externally, the more seems to happen internally. With less outer activity, we have time to reflect, feel, notice, and be witness to our own growth. We choose consciously rather than randomly. My conscious choices were to put on my first art exhibit, have a fun birthday outing, receive pampering (a new hairstyle, clothes, massage), and spend time with visiting cousins. As a result, each of these left an impact that was rewarding.

My artist persona came more alive through the art exhibit, making this part of my identity publicly visible. The birthday outing included exploring new places and ended with a gift of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies at 2 am!  The new hairstyle and dress became outer expressions of my inner shifts. The time with my cousins was a reminder of family love and had me see the changes I’ve made over the years and who I’ve consciously become. Finally, it was totally heartwarming to have one of my little nieces claim she wanted to live with me forever! 🙂 How could anything be wrong with love like that?

Looking back can be a good way to realize how much you’ve grown, what you’ve gone through, how you’ve handled it, and all that you learned. Then, giving yourself a pat on the back. It’s not easy being human after all!

As summer moves on, I would love to hear your stories, lessons, and joys…comment box open!
