Lesson 4: Full Immersion allows you to Embody a New Way
Whatever desires are put in your heart are sacred. They’re given to you intentionally which gives you the power to live them. I must admit that sometimes it scares me to fully immerse myself, as if I’ll get lost and forget about real life. The truth is that it puts me in the centre of it! At age 17, I spent a summer in Trois-Rivieres in French Immersion. Five years I’d studied French in high school but couldn’t speak it! Yes, I had a strong foundation for the grammar and language, but when I landed in Quebec and a fellow came up to help me with my suitcase, I stared at him blankly not understanding a word he said! A moment of terror arose. By the end of the summer, after only being allowed to speak French (there were “spys” around who could report you and send you back home if you broke the commitment – clever tactic), I was speaking the language and was in the 2nd top class. And not only was I speaking French, but I could understand the Quebecois version too! We immerse in language. What about immersing in your desires? What about living them day-to-day without breaking the commitment? What about believing that through a period of such dedication, you will without a shadow of a doubt, create what you’re meant to? Because that’s how things works. This is a year I’ve trusted my own inner creations and chosen to be immersed in them. The work has been behind-the-scenes, but the experience is palpable. The crazy part is that life becomes far more free, because you’re doing exactly what enlivens you. “The cave you fear to enter hides the treasure you seek.” Joseph Campbell
