Delights of a fashion show

Last night I attended a fashion show for the Jacqueline Conoir fall/winter 2010 Collection.  While I was there for the fashion, to my delight (and I’m certain for the rest of the audience), the show began with a stunning performance by young dancers from the Goh Ballet Academy.  Not only was their dance physically enjoyable to watch, I was impressed by the emotional depth they displayed through their movement.  It almost made me forget what I had come for. I love when opening acts do that…stand on their own and deliver beauty and power.

The fashion show was beautiful and had many items a woman would want to buy.  RozeMerie presented her classic pieces along with new inspirations. The event reminded me why I enjoy such fashion shows so much.  They combine so many artistic joys into one evening – music, clothing, design of a stage/catwalk, artistic lighting – all to inspire and move the audience.  Then there is the people watching. (Vancouver is a city without a famous promenade or square.  Yes, we have our magnificent seawall, however fashion is not what comes to mind when I go there.)  I love to people watch and take in the vibe at these events since this is one of my ‘tribes’ (as a dear person told me), a group of people to whom I belong and feel connected, people who see clothing as art and a way to express their best selves.  And I bumped into a couple of old friends!  All in all, I came home fully satiated.  Beauty, performance, friends, and music.

Fall/winter collections have been shown all around the world. So if you missed out, plan to catch the next season in the fall. Or check out a fashion show fundraiser sometime – give to a good cause and sit back and enjoy.
