Do Things Differently

Change is a constant and yet some people avoid it like the plague. But what if you decided to lead the change? Rather than waiting for things to shift, take it on yourself to do things differently?  It’s a great way to change the scenery when you need an uplift or discover something new.  It improves your ability to learn. It keeps your ideas fresh. It can create stimulating conversations. And it will remind you that you are alive and you have choice.  Here are five simple, yet potentially dramatic, ways to change your habits and experience newness (while naturally rewiring your brain through activation of the right side of the brain to increase creative thinking, intuitive awareness, pattern recognition, etc):

  1. Go with your body for what it wants to do rather than with your mind (ie for what to eat, wear, do).
  2. Pick up a different newspaper or magazine than you would normally read (check out left/right wing opinions, science/food).
  3. Spend an evening without electricity (turn off lights, phone, computers, tv).
  4. Choose a different writing style to express yourself for twenty minutes on a topic that needs attention (a poem, a story, a memo, a report, a song) and see what comes up.
  5. Wear an outfit that is different than your norm (match things differently than you normally would, wear something fancier than usual during the day…).

Choose at least one this week and have FUN!  I’d love to hear the results.

Great ideas, Jas! I am going to try a few of them this week. I’ll keep you posted! I’ve been trying to be in a spot of radical love and gratitude. BIG change from being in a spot of fear. (Noticed tonight that I feel more Canadian when I’m acting lovingly!)

Good work. This may or may not be relevant…have you read Byron Katie’s “The Work”? It is about facing reality as it is and knowing that everything is indeed ‘ok’ simply because it is (if it wasn’t meant to happen or be, it simply wouldn’t), getting to deep Truth, and then being present to it. It’s easy to go into fear, yet there often exists a turnaround to love, joy, inspiration, and simply being. xo
