How often do you get stuck or lose hope when things don’t seem to go your way? Anyone who dreams and expects those dreams to come true will experience setbacks. This is natural, an outcome for many reasons, one of which is often growth and perhaps a reconfiguration of sorts. There is also a bigger picture taking shape, of which we may only have a glimpse.
Regular readers of my blog know I am a strong proponent of taking time for stillness, reflection, and rest. Those are impactful pauses within our journey, not the journey itself. They fill us up so we have the strength, desire, and faith to keep going and also ensure we are moving in the direction that feels right and best, not just in the moment, but long term. You just got to make sure they don’t last so long that you forget where you want to really go!
I have wished many wishes throughout my life and continue doing so. As a result, I have come to face many challenges, disappointments, surprises, and obstacles. Like any other human being, I’ve questioned myself at those points. Happily, I’ve learned that my personality is not one to give up too easily. Plus, if the wishes were authentic, of course they’re still going to matter. Affirming this helped me choose to take a break, change something in the vision or myself, and at the bare minimum continue noting the destination and waiting until I felt a bigger nudge again.
All along the way, when I choose to move forward there is always some encouragement and support to do so. The keys that I look for are a sensation of expansion, an ability to breathe more freely, or simply delight. It is the light itself. Alternatively, when my life feels like it’s shrinking or getting dark, that’s a sure sign I’ve drifted away from my true self and the light flickers with a threat of going out.
What feels expansive is rarely as simple as it can seem. It is often inconvenient.
Lately the inconvenience of making decisions at a time when it’s not easy has come to my awareness. And I’ve gladly remembered that this is what makes life feel alive and real. So, if you’ve given up or feel you’ve rested long enough on the way to a dream, open your eyes and take the next step forward. Something inside of you will leap for joy.
I will let you know of my next leap in upcoming posts…!
